Residents who returned forms in May objecting to the proposals for Park-and-Ride at Swaythling and removal of strategic gap status from the land south of the M27 motorway may be wondering what happens next.
Over a thousand representations were made about the initial deposit plan. At present these are being sorted out into policy areas and put into a computer database. This phase is taking longer than expected because only one person is working on it. In August/September people will be contacted to give them details of meetings to discuss the issues. The intention was to publish a revised draft plan before Christmas but this is now likely to be early next year. During 2002 there will be a public enquiry and the plan adopted in 2003.
Residents may have heard that as well as park- and- ride at Stoneham, there are plans to site the City Bus depot there. Sharp-eyed readers of the Local Plan will have noticed that the existing Portswood Bus Depot is a site earmarked for building 250 dwellings.
