The building which you may have previously mistaken for a derelict public convenience in Avenue Park, Eastleigh, has now been beautifully restored. The shrine was built in 1917 by landowner John Willis Fleming as a war memorial to his son Richard and the other thirty-six men of North Stoneham parish who died in the Great War.
To walk to the shrine, go along Stoneham Lane, and just past North Stoneham Church, turn left. Go along the road and opposite the turnoff to the farmhouse, climb over the stile on your right. Go across the field and through the gate into Avenue Park. Walk to the right and after a short distance you will come to the shrine.
