Does anyone have a suggestion to explain why the current Southampton A-Z Street Atlas shows the middle square in Ethelburt Avenue as “Agatha Place”? I thought that perhaps the name had got misplaced from somewhere nearby but the only Agatha Place that Google tells me about is in Australia. Another thought, perhaps it was originally called Agatha Place before the remainder of the odd-numbered houses were built. I have found not a whiff of evidence to support this. If you have a solution to this puzzle, please tell me using our new email address.
One change of name did take place on the estate. About 1964, 26 – 40 Bassett Green Road became Field Close and there was a renumbering of the even numbered houses in Bassett Green Road.
