The making of the Article 4 Direction in 1992 put a stop to the rush to replace original windows with plastic. Now people are discovering that they do not last for ever and wondering what to do.
A great example has just been set. The original windows were wood and plastic windows have now been replaced with double-glazed wooden windows, identical in appearance to the original ones. The wood is Accoya, a modified timber, which should mean a very long life, even if poorly maintained. Agreement with the neighbour to do the same, means the uniformity of two semidetached properties has been maintained.
