The HCERA AGM was held on 15th October in the main hall of St George Catholic College. At the start, there was a disappointment. With no amount of trying, could we show the laptop display from the overhead projector. Robert Williams’s illustrated presentation on “So what is a Collins House?” had to be cancelled.
On the advice of the treasurer, the meeting decided to keep the membership subscription to £5 and for Ethelburt Avenue, the repair contribution to £35 per year. Dan Hopgood presented the report of the Road Improvement Group. He expressed concern that the number of volunteers might fall so low that a contractor might have to be employed instead. The meeting considered that repairing the potholes in the tarmac at the Stoneham Lane end using gravel was unacceptable and Dan agreed to get some estimates for repair using tarmac. These will be considered by the HCERA Committee.
In the continued absence of Uta Kohl, the Tree Group report was again presented by Robert Williams. The gaps in Ethelburt Avenue created by dying cherry trees would be planted with new trees in the Spring. The treasurer confirmed that none of the cost of tree-work in other parts of the estate was paid for out of the Ethelburt Avenue Repair Fund.
The existing Committee was reelected en bloc and Matthew Bambury became the third street rep for Ethelburt Avenue. The position of street rep for Stoneham Lane remains vacant, so please contact HCERA to volunteer.
The director David O’Connor gave the report for Herbert Collins Estates Ltd. There had been no nomination for the AGM to appoint a director, so if anyone would like to be considered, please get in touch. None of the directors is getting any younger!
