At the meeting of the City Council’s Cabinet on 12th March, the proposals for St George’s to become a mixed school were agreed unanimously, after a long period of consultation. Girls will be able to enter St George’s from 2013. This will not mean a huge increase in numbers immediately as only the first year (Y7) will be affected. St George’s was originally co-educational and this development is in response to the demand from parents who want a mixed education for their children. The only alternative, currently, in Southampton is the fee-paying St Mary’s.
The recent felling of trees between the two playing fields was to make way for an all weather pitch.
