You may have seen the “No Cold Calling Zone” signs in various parts of Southampton, for example in Bassett Green Village. These zones are usually set up by a partnership between local residents and some official agency, in this case, Hampshire Trading Standards. Trading Standards will require a minimum of 66% of residents to agree, before going ahead. Hopefully, cold callers will respect these signs, but in fact they have no legal force. Is this something you would like in your street? You may feel that cold calling is not a frequent occurrence and in any case you might welcome some cold callers and are yourself quite capable of seeing off the others.
A sticker on your door saying “We do not buy goods or services at the door – Identification will always be required and verified” might prove equally effective in deterring cold callers.
