Standing under umbrellas in the pouring rain, Angela Gilbert and Gaye Dawkins posed for the picture that appeared in the March 9th issue of the Daily Echo under the headline “Why are we the forgotten people of the City?”. The article went on to say that residents on the Leaside Way Estate in Bassett say they are plagued by mobs of marauding youngsters who make their lives a misery. Locals say that there is nothing for teenagers and younger children on the estate. Jeff Wain, chairman of the residents’ association told the Daily Echo, “I feel this area has been forgotten. Other areas such as Thornhill and Millbrook have received a lot of funding but we have not – as far as the Council is concerned we may as well be living in Beirut”.
