While most planning applications for single storey extensions to houses within the Conservation Area have been approved with conditions, a recent application for a two storey extension was refused. The Planning Committee considered that the size of the extension was such that it would dominate the existing house and have an overbearing effect on the surrounding environment. They also considered that it would set an undesirable precedent and make such developments more difficult to
resist in the Conservation Area.
Residents are reminded that in the Conservation Area demolition of a building requires planning consent and under the Article 4 Direction alterations to the front and side elevations (as well as some other things that would be allowed outside a Conservation Area) require planning permission.
