Dear Friends and Neighbours,
A massive thank you to all you wonderful people who donated £143.30 at the annual HCERA carol event to the Southampton Sunday Lunch Project.
We are a purely local charity and for the last 35 years have provided Sunday lunch for those in need.
Currently that need is increasing and we offer a warm venue, freshly prepared hot food and company for the lonely. There is soup, a main course and pudding every Sunday of the year.
People come from all walks of life, having fallen on hard times. Ill health, physical or mental, can play a part or just the inability to cope with life. We welcome all, with no questions asked.
Our two venues are St. Deny’s Church Centre, St. Deny’s , SO17 2ND and St. Mark’s Institute, Victoria Road, Woolston, SO19 9DY.
We are run entirely by volunteers on a 7week rota; nobody is paid.
Your donation will go towards providing this service, so thank you.
Last year we were the proud recipients of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, presented by Nigel Atkinson, Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire. The citation was signed by King Charles III.
A proud moment indeed for all the hard work freely given!
Each year we have a traditional Christmas Lunch on the nearest Sunday to Christmas. In total we served 150 people, everyone had a bag of gifts, live music and a party atmosphere to celebrate.
There is usually a take-away bag for the week ahead. This for some is a life line, rough sleepers, not through choice, or those with nothing to eat.
We do not have any official funding and are grateful for every penny donated. We also need volunteers.
